Dr. Brian Hempel is the department chair and assistant professor of criminal justice
at ²¤ÂÜÊÓÆµ. His teaching expertise includes: criminal law, corrections, criminal
investigations, ethics in the criminal justice system, as well as coursework in leadership,
management, and decision-making during crises. Dr. Hempel's research interest includes
leadership in law enforcement, decision-making in the criminal justice system, and
providing insight to help those interested in criminal justice to be more well rounded
individuals in the community. Prior to ²¤ÂÜÊÓÆµ, Dr. Hempel has served in many
different roles in the human resources community, a law enforcement officer in Southern
California, and as a Marine in the United States Marine Corps. Dr. Hempel is passionate
about serving his community. When he is not teaching, he is a Volunteer Firefighter
with Waterloo Fire and Rescue and serves as Board of Director for Honored Heroes,
a non-profit focused on the preservation of veteran's headstones.
