Jacob Byers, a 2021 graduate of Lincoln Christian, was presented with the Mike Myers
Scholarship award by the vice president for enrollment, David Odom, on Thursday, July
7, 2022. The scholarship is a renewable award based on the recipient's goals and tied
to their desire to serve with compassion and point people to the cross.
鈥淭his award is more than a tribute to Mike Myers and more than a scholarship for Jacob,鈥�
shared Odom. 鈥淭his award is about an invitation. It is inviting Jacob to take up the
cause and have a heart for people and service.鈥�
The award was designed to partner with students who have a heart for ministry and
service to others. Byers is transferring to 菠萝视频 and minoring in Biblical
studies while majoring in engineering. Byers will be under the guidance of Dr. Sam
Garner, vice president for spiritual life, while he fulfills his goals on campus.
鈥淛acob possesses the spiritual maturity and desire to grow in God鈥檚 kingdom that exemplifies
the type of candidates we are seeking for this scholarship,鈥� stated Garner. 鈥淢ike
Myers would have been excited to welcome a young man like Jacob on our campus for
this unique opportunity. I look forward to partnering with Jacob for the next few
years of his journey.鈥�
Byers is thrilled about the direction he will receive as well as the opportunity to
lead and serve the campus and his fellow students.
鈥淚鈥檓 extremely grateful that God has put me on this journey and surrounded me with
these people as my mentors, guides, and friends,鈥� said Byers after receiving the award.
鈥淎s I stand at the foothills of this new journey, I think to myself about what I was
lacking before now, and it was a balance between humility and recognizing my role
in the church and how I can be serving God.鈥�
Byers also shared a passage from Matthew 10, 鈥淎re not two sparrows sold for a penny?
Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father鈥檚 care. And even the
very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don鈥檛 be afraid; you are worth more than
many sparrows.鈥�
鈥淚t reminds me that while, yes, I am small before God, He cares for me, He loves me,
and He will always take care of me.鈥�
